Migration

Migration and globalization are intertwined. Because our world has become more interconnected, the chance for migration grew.

Immigration

Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. As the world has become more widely accessible, people will leave their home country to live in a country they believe will improve and benefit their life. There are usually push or pull factors that drive a person to want to leave the place they live in now like pollution, poor medical care, and another country could provide that and the security they need.

Why Do People Move?

Improve Life

A majority of the world today lives in some form of poverty, and many people immigrate to give themselves security.

Escaping Danger

People could be threatened by war or militia groups who want control over people and places. In order to escape this, they choose to flee and seek asylum from the danger.

    Who Is Affected?

Itijah Subahan

Itijah Subahan, her husband, seven children, and two grandchildren fled Zamboanga in the Philippines due to conflict between the army and the government. Itijah's house was burned down during a siege by the Moro National Liberation Front and was forced to seek refuge elsewhere. Her family now lives in a transitory shelter with 500 other families, and it's on the sea, making it accessible to fishers, which is a source of their livelihood. Itijah's family escaped danger to better their life because staying in the city would not have been safe for her family.
